1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. (2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV)
Does the above remind you of any time in history? I think we are seeing a lot of these traits around us today. The question is, how many of these traits could you apply to your life, to your actions?
You see, we often read scripture and point to others but very often the finger should be pointing back at us. We need to have a healthy sense of ourselves. We need to do a little review of our actions through God’s scriptural filter to see just how much correction we need to be working on in our own lives.
The problem is that society seems to be embracing many of these traits and it becomes easy for us to reflect the world. But we are not supposed to be of this world. We are supposed to be cut from a different cloth.
Take a few moments this morning to take an assessment. Write down which of the traits above you honestly recognize and are willing to own up to. Then begin today to take action against being this way. Make sure that you can truly say you are cut from a different cloth.
