The Measure You Use

38 Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over—will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38 CSB)

We have been going through a period where it feels like we need to be holding on to everything, building up. Whether you see this in the way of wealth or other forms of security all are false measures. Furthermore, we are not focusing upon the measure of these things.

God takes what we hold back and measures out to us in kind. God does not wish us to be stingy with our time, talents or treasure. He desires that all these things are used in accordance with His plan for us and for those who we come in contact. Gladly giving off our resources, freely and openly.

When we hold back and do not give freely to the church or to others we are holding back from ourselves as well. You see, God wants to give all things to us. But often He holds back because we are holding back. We can not expect Him to freely give when we first hold on to everything we have and do not let go and use what God is already giving us. No, this is not always easy, nor is it always comfortable, but we when we give freely God gives freely back. He will not let us fail when we are using what He has given us.

Consider the measure you are using in giving to God.
