The Mediator

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, (1 Timothy 2:5 CSB)

As my children are now adults and have come to live fairly near us, we have had the occasion to be together more. Stories of them growing up have been shared over family meals. A grandson has been added to the mix and many tails of my children’s adolescent days have come up watching him grow.

One thing that has become abundantly clear is that my wife was the mediator between myself and our children. Many stories begin with, “I went to mom”, or “we didn’t tell dad.” I see now that while I was kept in the dark about some things, many of them were best handled by my wife who had a gentler hand. And when I was brought into the loop is was with a plan in mind.

God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are one. The Spirit is our guide and a help to our conscience. Jesus is the mediator between God and mankind, and God the Father is in control of all.

Having this Triumvirate in our lives is so very important. We have a Father to pray to and a friend in Christ to provide blood coverage for the times we go astray. I am sure the Spirit’s job is hard trying to keep even the best of us on the right path. All these things work together.

Jesus’ role as mediator provides the only path between us and our Father. The one conduit, through the shedding of His blood, provides us the mediation we need to be able to come to the Father at all.
