3 There is no soundness in my body
because of your indignation;
there is no health[a] in my bones
because of my sin.
4 For my iniquities have flooded over my head;
they are a burden too heavy for me to bear. (Psalm 38:3-4 CSB)
Do you feel the weight and burden of your sin?
If not, why not? Maybe you should ask yourself this. I once read a book that talked about how the burden of sin in our lives can wear us down, make us tired and without strength. It seems our scripture today would support that.
Walking around with unrepentant sin in our lives is like keeping any other secret. It is burdensome causes and makes us uneasy, at times incapable of getting needed rest. The body becomes weary and this can even lead to physical illness. That may seem extreme but there are facts to support this as well.
Sin, especially in the believers life, will happen but needs to be taken to God and repented of quickly. We cannot hope to feel at peace when we are harboring secret sin. I say “in the believers life” because we have more cause to be mindful of sin. However, scripture tells us that sin impacts every life, both now and into eternity.
Sin can be like overeating, it takes a tole on our bodies over time. Just like gaining weight and the burden those extra pounds can put on us, sin is a weight we do not want to carry about long term. Better to repent now and go on with our day with a light heart and unburdened mind.
