13 He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. (Colossians 1:13 CSB)
My family has been lucky in that we have not lived lives where any of our jobs required us to be transferred from place to place. Even my son who was in the military pretty much moved to his base of operation and was there throughout two tours. Our daughter and family were directed by God to live in Africa for a time doing ministry but are now home and working semi-locally.
But, as a child my father took jobs in many places. So while not being transferred, we did move a lot and I learned two things: there is stress in moving frequently or being transferred so anxiety can run high and I learned to be very flexible. I think this drove me to stay pretty fixed in life as an adult. However, this did not mean my life has not been about constant change.
The one thing about any of this kind of change is that through it all we can count on the stability of God. Even when life uproots us and sends us new places we can focus ourselves on the ever stable mercy and grace of God. He transferred us from the domain of darkness to the kingdom of light. He sent his one and only Son to provide the kind of stability that cannot be uprooted. He rescued us and made for us a permanent place in heaven where we will one day live in complete peace, complete stability and complete safety. He did this by transferring His grace onto us so that we are justified even though we are sinful creatures.
