The Battle is not Yours

15 …‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast number, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. (1 Chronicles 20:15b)

When you feel overwhelmed by circumstance, do you worry and get discouraged? We all do, and we tend to start looking for outs and ways to fix the situation. However, are we taking on a job that is rightfully God’s?

I have written often about fear, worry, discouragement and anxiety. Probably because I suffer from these emotions. What I have found is that the place I go when problems arise is not a healthy place, my head. Where I/we need to head first is the place where we find and encounter God.

The human mind is a labyrinth of neural pathways that have been created over time. Many of these pathways got created in times of great stress and may take us down roads we need not go. Across from our bed hangs a picture my wife found that says, “Give it to God and go to sleep.” This is very appropriate because it is in the night when anxiety hits me the hardest. I need to be reminded that the battle is God’s and not my own.

I believe, if we could see into the heavenly realm we would see just how many angles attend us all the time. And I believe a great many must weep over our fragile state of being and wonder why we feel the way we do when God has given up so much for us in the sacrifice of His Son.

We must give our battles to God and rest assured that He will work them to His good will.
