Futile

11 The Lord knows the thoughts of mankind;
they are futile. (Psalms 94:11 CSB)

Do you ever get the feeling that everything is just futile?

I think we all go through periods like this and our scripture today backs that up. However, I have simply plucked this line of scripture out of Psalms without context. And often the futility we feel is just that, plucked out of life without context.

Many like to do this with scripture to back up whatever their opinion might be. The Bible is a book meant to be read and interpreted in its entirety. In fact scripture specifically says that we are not to use passages out of context to simply support our ideology. You see, when taken out of context you can find even things like “There is no God!” But the entire line of scripture says, “The fool says in his heart, There is no God.”

Futility in life means that we are not embracing what God expects from us. We are not living in His will or plan. We are, in essence, living without purpose and this is futile.

When viewed in the light of the world and heavens we can seem an insignificant speck of dust in the grand scheme of things. When viewed in the scope of the universe we are infinitesimally smaller. But God can do great things with a spec of sand and the seemingly infinitesimal.

Life is not simply a futile striving, unless we are only striving for ourselves.
