How Confident Are You

14 This is the confidence we have before him: If we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked of him. (1 John 5:13-14 CSB)

What is your confidence level with God?

Do you really think He will give you whatever you ask?

Do you believe what you have already have you worked for or God gave you?

Far too often our confidence is with ourselves and our ability to “work things out”. I am the chief among sinners here!

It is not that I am not confident in God, but that I grew up with that old sage advice being breathed in my ear, “God helps those who help themselves”. I have come to learn that this is both a very selfish view and a ver foolish view. It is effectively saying, “I got this God”. And we rarely do, even when we think we do.

I know I struggle to hear God’s voice. He is probably shouting at me, but I am oblivious to it in many ways, I am sure. I think for most of us God’s will is recognized in hindsight.

When we do not know what to do we simply act upon our own best view of the situation, which is so often shortsighted. We see the immediate and in the worst possible way we allow our emotions to guide our choices and our decisions. We do not give it to God and wait patiently for His answer.

I am writing this so much for myself today. I have concerns for myself and others and I am seeking God’s will, but am I really? No, I am seeking a quick answer and a fast way forward. I am not toughing it out and being patient. I am reading into the situation and allowing the enemy to feed my fears and potentially misdirect my actions.

When I need to be confident in God and see how He works things out I am seeking my own outcomes. What a wretched man I am.
