18 But Balaam responded to the servants of Balak, “If Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go against the command of the Lord my God to do anything small or great. (Numbers 22:18 CSB)
Balaam’s attitude should be our own. That no matter what might be our reward, we should do nothing small or great that goes against His command.
This presupposes that we are consulting God on all we do to begin with, which is often not the case. We get wrapped up in our own designs, our own plans and totally forget God in the process. He is not simply not involved, He is forgotten.
God wishes to partner with us in every thing we do. He wants to be a part of our lives and He wants to use our lives to further His Kingdom. We are not second rate players in His plans, we are front and center, the A player in what He has planned.
Now if you read beyond our scripture in Numbers 22 you will find that God had to get Balaam’s attention in a most unique way (hint, it is worth the read). God may also be using the circumstances or situation we find ourselves in to get our attention. Especially when our direction is not His direction.
I write on following God’s direction frequently. As much to remind myself to stay away from my own wandering path as to point the better way to others. It is just so easy to get wrapped up in our own efforts and allow the enemy (the world) to distract us from God’s plan.
Proper focus comes from reading The Word and from prayer.
