Thorns and Thistles

17…The ground is cursed because of you.
You will eat from it by means of painful labor[a]
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you, (Genesis 3:17b-18a CSB)

We can easily forget that we are still living under the curse of Adam in a fallen world. Life can rock and roll along with ease until we stumble upon the thorns and thistles.

Think of the beauty and ease of life in the Garden of Eden. It must have been wonderful prior to the fall. God took care of man’s every need and everything was good.

But Adam and Eve were human and the enemy was already around to his sew seeds of deceit.

Thorns and thistles are a part of life, unfortunately. They work their way in to every life to some extent and prick us. Sometimes they get under the skin and leave lasting pain that can fester. Sometimes they just leave deep scars from us running through them.

Living in Texas we have these wonderful thorn tree’s called Mesquite. If you have ever tangled with one of these you know just how painful that can be. Their thorns are hard and quite long and they leave a lasting impression.

Many of the thorns and thistles of life leave lasting impressions, but we have a loving God to fall back on. Even though we live under Adam’s curse, God is there for us when we encounter the painful thorns of life.
