9 Common people are only a vapor;
important people, an illusion.
Together on a scale,
they weigh less than[a] a vapor. (Psalm 62:9 CSB)
I have lived by a very basic rule throughout my life, treat everyone with the same respect. My dad instilled this in me from a very early age. You are no better, nor no worse than any man out there, he would say to me.
It stuck.
The world speaks of equality and then does everything in its power to put people upon pedestals of fame, wealth, position and power. As much as we may strive for it, I do not see it happening this side of heaven. The key problem with equality is that it requires every man to hold the same values, and we do not….maybe we cannot.
Yet, when you put us together, shake us up and weigh each of us out we are but a vapor. Even when we all sit on God’s scale at the same time. How can man be anything more to an infinite God?
Well, even as little as we are, He gave us His one and only Son to die for our sins. So, I would say, He puts a pretty high value on us all.
But it is up to each of us, individually, to see the value of others. To see others as more than only a vapor.
