Doubt

Moses answered, “What if they won’t believe me and will not obey me but say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” (Exodus 4:1 CSB)

How often do you struggle with feelings or thoughts of doubt?

Even as confident a person as I tend to be, doubt seeps its icy cold fingers into my heart and mind at times.

My doubt is rarely focused upon God, however. I have been through many years and much in life and God has shown up for all of them. I may not have, not in my best form. But God has!

No, my doubt is in myself and in the trappings of life. But even here I sin. When I doubt these things, in truth, I am doubting God. I am looking away from his sovereign hand and loving heart to my own explanations of the things happening to and around me.

Doubt causes our focus to shift from God to ourselves and our ability to manipulate outcomes. It is climbing a slippery slope. When we keep our eyes fixed upon the summit we progress, but when we slip just once, we immediately look down and begin to slide.

Only by keeping our eyes upon God can we banish doubt and reach His summit.
