5 Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith without doubting.[a] For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, 8 being double-minded and unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5–8 CSB)
James is probably my favorite book of the Bible. There is so much scriptural wisdom packed into this short book of the Bible.
When we come to belief God not only sends His Spirit to live within us but He also unlocks the wisdom and mystery of scripture. Our minds become open and capable of understanding faith based teaching.
This too is why the scriptures say “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness.”
It is all here for us and for our profit.
Thus if we feel we lack wisdom, we need only come to God and ask. But we must do so without doubting. Furthermore, we must seek out the wisdom God provides in scripture and study what He has said both in the Old and New Testament. God will not grant wisdom if we are not willing to do our part and study.
All of this is why we should thank God daily for His inspired wisdom and our ability to read, listen and learn. No doubt should come into our minds about the fact that God is already working His will within us and through us.
