25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25 CSB)
Consider today what it truly means to keep in step with the Spirit.
Yes, as our scripture says, it means that we live by the Spirit, but do we truly understand the depth of meaning here?
To be in step is to neither rush ahead, nor lag behind. Consider our rushing ahead as times when we do things out of our own vain pride. And lagging behind are times when we allow sin to dominate or we are disobedient.
Disobedience and pride keep us out of step with the Spirit and keep us from living by the Spirit. While many other words could be used to define how we live apart from the Spirit, these two sum up pretty much every form of wrong behavior.
When we look at life in this way we can more clearly determine exactly why we lose step with God and stop living by His plan and standard. Furthermore, we can then adjust and either slow down and stop our vain striving or we can step away from our disobedience.
Learning to stay in step with the Spirit can affirm the life we are leading.
