In One Ear…

25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works—this person will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:25 CSB)

…and out the other.

Too often we blow through scripture, seemingly to meet some daily quota and none of it settles in our soul.

Yet we may retain copious amounts of information daily around our business or a hobby.

When we begin to look intently into the scriptures, hearing all that it has to teach us and then acting upon it, then do we see the blessings of the true Word.

This is not information meant to be some subtle subtext to our lives. It is meant to be a living, breathing thing that is active in every aspect of our daily activities. This movement from passive listening to active doing then begins to shape the very fabric of our existence.

When scripture has become alive to us we find that we cannot exist without it. It moves from subtle subtext to active roadmap. We begin to crave more and more of it, even the parts we have read over and over are fresh with each reading. We realize that scripture has this mysterious ability that seems to adapt and mold itself to our exact situation, exactly when needed.

This is when scripture has become fully active in our lives.
