Built Up

Each one of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. (Romans 15:2 CSB)

This passage can be read one of two ways.

“We are to please our neighbor for HIS good, to build him up.”

“We are to please our neighbor for OUR good, to build him up.”

In reality, we should act upon it in both ways. When we please someone to build them up it is both a boon to them and to us. We too gain in so many ways from our efforts to build others up.

Thus, in truth, the effort to build others up as the effect of building us up as well. Furthermore, in doing so, we gain an immeasurable good will with others that has lasting effect and impact.
