⁷ For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you didn’t receive? If, in fact, you did receive it, why do you boast as if you hadn’t received it? (1 Corinthians 4:7 CSB)

We walk around feeling superior because we have made something of ourselves, we are successful. As if by our own hand we have made this happen.

We fool ourselves and do not give credit where credit is due.

We have what we have, along with our station in life, because God allows it. We received it but we boast as if we had done it ourselves.

This may seem like a harsh way to start the morning. However, we need to realize just how and why we are where we are. This begins with gratitude to the One who we received from.

Gratitude is something that I struggle with. Not because I am ungrateful, but because I am often oblivious to the magnitude of how grateful I should be. I say this with great self admonition.

Consider today all you have received and understand that it is not from your hand, but the hand God has given to you.
