1 Be gracious to me, God,
according to your faithful love;
according to your abundant compassion,
blot out my rebellion.
2 Completely wash away my guilt
and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I am conscious of my rebellion,
and my sin is always before me. (Psalm 51:1-3 CSB)
At times, when we have simply gone on with life and not spent much time focused upon God our sin creeps back in. Or maybe it is better to say it rises to the occasion and begins to take the lead position.
This is why daily time in the Word and regular prayer is so important. Each keep our sins ever before us. If we put break points in our day where we consciously make an effort to slow down, step away from the world and talk to God, He opens our mind to what we have been doing wrong and begins again to light our way.
Without these momentary respites it is very hard to discern ourselves from the world. And this is what makes us different. We are taking ourselves out of the world so that we might be more attentive to our state within the world.
Make no mistake, we were not born for a worldly life, we are not of this earth. No, we were meant for something more. But to see how we are activing within the world we must step away reguarly, take a time out, so that God may place our sins ever before us.
