Comfort

6 But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us… (2 Corinthians 7:6b CSB)

Reading through the New Testament it becomes very clear that the Apostles needed comfort. They trod a difficult road that put them in conflict with both the Jewish leaders of the time and the Romans. They were often inprisoned and beaten. They went hungry during their travels that, more often than not, required them walking great distances.

Today some may need comfort from physical hardship but more than likely we seek comfort from mental and spiritual hardship. Stress comes from a very different place today than it did back then. Where the Apostles faced true danger we face great stress.

This is not to diminish that some of our missionaries today too face danger and we need to pray for them constantly. They too need comfort and protection.

But the God who comforted the Apostles, comforts us. We can reach out to God and he will not fail to comfort us in our time of need.
