9 Oil and incense bring joy to the heart,
and the sweetness of a friend is better than self-counsel. (Proverbs 27:9 CSB)

Back when scripture was being written oil nad incense were precious items, used to anoint, calm, and bring one into a peaceful state.

We use many artificial things today to try to induce these feelings, but our scripture hits on a single truth. No matter what the year the sweetness of a friend is far better. Better yet, that we gain some counsel from our friends and do not try to noodle through every situation alone.

A friend of mine this week said, “you are not in this alone” which really came at a good time for me as I was feeling like I was very alone. My friends counsel helped me in a number of ways not the least of which was picking up my spirit.
