19 Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
It is best if we consider our bodies a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. Maybe then we will do a bit more to observe our body as a temple.
Look, I am not pointing any fingers here. I grew up and remain a “live to eat” not “eat to live” guy. I do not work out enough, unless it is riding my mountain bike. Physically I have always driven my body hard. Even during a recent spat with Covid 19 I continued to work from home. I took some frequent breaks when I felt my worst, but for the most part I pushed my mind and body through it not taking an actual sick day off.
This portion of scripture goes deeper into how we use our bodies sexually. Extensibly, it speaks to other forms of addiction that impacts the body.
We were “bought at a price”. Thus, we should (I should) glorify God with how we treat our body in every possible way.
When we begin to view it as a temple, then we gain a better perspective of just how God wants us to keep ourselves. All of this deepens into health issues as well if we do not treat it well. And as a good friend always says, “we do not value our health until it is gone”.
