7 Some take pride in chariots, and others in horses,
but we take pride in the name of the Lord our God. (Psalm 20:7 CSB)

This scripture also reads “Some trust in” in many translations. I like both translations because together they define how many live life. They take pride in things or put trust in things that are creations of the Creator.

How can we focus more on the creation than the Creator? Is it not a form of idolatry? Yes, of course it is. People continually put misguided trust in things like money or health, both of which get used up. Or they take pride in their homes, their cars, their appearance or success. All of which fade away.

When we focus upon the created and not the Creator we are misplacing our pride and our trust. We are considering the lessor greator and the greator lessor.

If we step back a moment from that which is in our hand right now and look up to the heavens above, to a loving God above we gain perspective. When our focus is too narrow our vision is short.
