12 Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience (Colossians 3:12 CSB)
Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought you needed to put on compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience? Consider a recent bad day and think about how it might have turned out differently had you done so.
Much like the doctors say that the first meal of the day is the most important. So too is how we prepare for each day by what we “put on” in regards to our faith, the state of our minds and hearts.
Starting each day out with scripture and prayer provides us a respite from the start of what could be a hectic day. Wouldn’t it be great to start then with a full tank of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience?
I am predisposed to being a pretty hard person. The tough old hide of my heart needs to be reguarly tenderized. If I do not begin my day with this ritual, and writing these devotionals, I hazard to think of the kind of person I could be. Luckily, the Spirit intervenes and teaches me daily how to employ all of these very valuable traits.
Go ahead, put it on…
