Pause Awhile

Pause awhile, and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10 JB)

In Brennan Manning’s excellent book, “The Rentless Tenderness of Jesus”, he reflects on this passage from Psalms and uses a translation in the book I was unfamiliar with; Jerusalem Bible.

I like the fact that it says “pause awhile” as opposed to the general translation of “Be still”. Actually I like them both as they provide slightly different ideas to me. Maybe I like this translation because what we need to do most is to hit “pause” on our day and reflect on God the Father.

It is hard for many of us to be still, and maybe even really understand what it is like to be “still in God’s presence”. However, I think we can all readily understand how to pause for awhile in our hectic days.

Take a moment today to “pause awhile” and know that God is there for you.
