28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers,
but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. (Proverbs 15:28 NIV)
When I was young I was often too quick with answers. As I got older I found the value in not being first to answer but in weighing the value of my answer.
I still often find myself wanting to speak quickly, to be heard. However, when I wait I often now find I have far less to say. Yes, I have become quieter and more introspective and now understand the value in reflection before action. I also find that I gain a greater insight into the conversation the more I weigh others reactions and my answers.
My prayer today is that when I was young and brash with my answers I did not gush evil in my speech.
