26 In the same way the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us[a] with inexpressible groanings. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because he intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27 CSB)

At times we simply do not know what to pray. We search for the words but raw emotion is all we feel. We seek to take a next step, but we have no idea what that next step is. We desire to know God’s will but we do not know the questions to ask.

In these times the Spirit himself intercedes for us and speaks on our behalf, possibly with only a deep well of sympathy for our human weakness. In this the Spirit and God who are one understand our innermost needs and begin to act upon our behalf.

It may still take time for things to happen, but we can know that no matter what it is all in God’s good time.
