Search Me

23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my concerns.
24 See if there is any offensive[a] way in me;
lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23-24 CSB)

Few of us want our inner selves searched. To know our heart and minds would just be too vulnerable. And what would be found? In most of us what we hold deepest is what is darkest.

But to invite God to know our hearts, to test us and know our concerns. How much more intimate is this inquiry. We know what lurks within the recesses of our hearts and minds. We do not want anyone intruding there and searching out what we hold within.

Yet, to do so is to shed light on that which darkens our souls. To be rid of it would be a weight off our shoulders and a burden no longer carried. Thus, to open ourselves to God’s testing is to let go of the last vestige of who we are, allow Him to permeate our being and lead us to the way everlasting.
