16 “Look, I’m sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as serpents and as innocent as doves. (Matthew 10:16 CSB)

It is a cruel hard world out there. Thus, we have to keep a bit of an edge to survive in it and Christ knew this when he sent the disciples out. He wanted them to retain their innocence but knew that they would need to also be shrewd. If not they would be taken advantage of and would not discern those who were true followers and those who just wanted to sew discord.

We too must seek to retain some innocence while being shrewd. To approach each day like a child with wonder and excitement but to be wise in our dealings watching for the wolves among the sheep.

We must be sheepdogs that watch ourselves and the flock.
