The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

I heard this all my life. It is a little platitude we say to ourselves when we want to do the right thing but know we are going to do the opposite.

Yes, our basal nature is weak. Of course it is, it is governed by our primal nature. Our spirit, our higher self, has to exert its power over our basal nature. It must reason the consequences of our actions and chose the higher path.

It is always darkest at the foot of a lighthouse. We must look up to the light, not wallow in our darkness.
