19 “Don’t store up for yourselves treasures[a] on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves don’t break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21 CSB)

We see it far too reguarly. Someone spends a lifetime building up a good life and a strong nest egg for retirement. All to see it disappear on the fickle whim of a market change or some mismanagement of funds.

When we put all of our faith and trust in what we are building up we may have that faith tested. Too our spiritual faith may be tested in various ways.

The difference is that when our faith is founded in Christ and not in things or people, even when the worst happens He is still there.

Too often we bank on our health, wealth or influence to “get us by” – God recognizes none of those things and only gauges what is in the heart and through that He gets us by.
