7 For rarely will someone die for a just person—though for a good person perhaps someone might even dare to die. 8 But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8 CSB)
Few of us will ever be asked to give up much, most assuredly not our lives, for another. Our military, law enforcement and other first responders continually do so for others. They wade into the breach. They run toward trouble, while most of us seek the safety of anywhere else.
These, and some number of others of us who are also willing, are the sheep dogs of the world. They stand between the wolves and the sheep. They stand up for others, they risk all, whether that be their lives or their reputation or standing to stand strong beside others who are not able.
Christ did so much more. He gave his life not for one, but for all. He is the ultimate sheep dog who created a bridge between heaven and earth.
