Harsh Reality

35 “I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty again. (John 6:35 CSB)

Many come to the faith because they think it will be a quick fix to the problems in their life. And it can be. But not in the way the world expects quick fixes.

The message in this chapter of John is a hard one. Yes, it informs the reader of the way to heaven and the path one must take. But the entire message goes much deeper and when Christ taught it many of his followers left him. The message was just too hard. He had just fed the multitude and they expected more handouts and expected Christ to provide an easy path.

We want an easy path. A quick fix. A way to the good life. But that is not life in a fallen world. The easy life, with all the fixes, is the life in heaven. Not the life here on earth.

The path God puts us on when he selects us may not be easy. But the ultimate reward is worth all of the strife we fact today.
