2 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God. (Proverbs 2:1-5 NIV)
Few would argue the value of wisdom. However, also we may not have a clear understanding of wisdom. We can seek understanding and knowledge, things that we learn and know about our profession or our area of endeavor. However, wisdom is a different animal.
Wisdom is application. It is having, yes, the knowledge and understanding of a thing; but further it is the application of these things that displays true wisdom. Many people can gain from book knowledge, but until such knowledge is applied can we truly gain wisdom.
God looks for us to gain in wisdom of Him through the Word and our application of the Word in our world.
