Do Not Be Entangled

1 Stand[a] fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.  (Galatians 5:1 NKJV)

Do you realize that when we become entangled in habitual sin it becomes a yoke of bondage? Just like horses that are yoked to a wagon, the sin takes control and steers us and keeps us bound to the heavy weight we pull.

As I was writing that last line I realized that in our modern world many may not well understand the reference point of a horse and a wagon. We are so far removed from that era of the world for it to be akin to handing a young person a rotary phone and asking them to make a call. Thus, let me revise my statement…consider the entanglement of your smart phone.

Today people show signs of high anxiety if they misplace their smart phones. They have become, in many ways, our lifeline to everything and everyone. We are entangled with them and they have become as much a yoke to us as any yoke and bridle was to a horse. If the grid were to go down many would be lost and adrift in a world they no longer understand.

Reflect on: All the things in this modern world you are yoked to. Do we need to make a shift away from so many conveniences. I believe we do so we can grow closer to God.
