Heartily, as to the Lord

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, (Colossians 3:23 NKJV)

It is so easy to get hung up doing our jobs for ourselves, for our family or to gain success. Often times I see strong believers who’s work life does not reflect their faith life. God can be found no where in it and this is a sad thing, especially when they get older and late in their careers. A time that should reflect the richness of their lives often becomes a slog for survival. When we work for God it changes the entire perspective of work.

I have always found that when I am cognizant of God in my work life, my work life is better. Let’s face it, we spend the majority of our time at work. How can we not have God, who should be our whole life, in something so significant!? I think this is especially true for those of us who are not predisposed to play the political games that are in every workplace. Seeking common ground through humble service, prayer and cooperation simply makes work easier, better and, for me, more meaningful.

Reflect on: Your work life. Do you do your job heartily, as for the Lord or for men? Maybe a change is in order.
