16 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
Cease to do evil, (Isaiah 1:16 NKJV)
I doubt that many of us purposefully do evil. However, even the best of us continue to sin and make choices that we know do not honor God. So we must not gloss over today’s verse and think it does not apply because we do not do evil. All sin is evil in God’s eyes.
It was, before Christ, an act of atonement to sacrifice and animal for sins. This was a ritual act of “washing yourself”, metaphorically, in the animals blood. Jesus blood sacrifice on the cross ended this need as His blood washed us all white as snow, as scripture tells us.
However, we should view prayer and scripture reading as our daily washing in the Word. Each day can begin new and we can have a fresh start, no matter what has happened before this day. This, I believe, is what morning scripture reading and prayer are so important. We must bathe in the Word to wash away our sins from yesterday and to put a hedge of protection around us for today.
Reflect on: How spiritually clean you feel and if you need to go to God this morning in a prayer of washing.
