Anchor of the Soul

19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. (Hebrews 6:19-20 NKJV)

When we think of an anchor what do we envision? Of course we think of the typical shape of an anchor, but more than this we may think about its use on a ship. The anchor has changed little over the years. It simply does a job that can be little improved upon to hold a ship steady.

We should see Jesus in a similar way. He is an anchor for our soul. He can keep us sure and steadfast in any storm. Even if the storm is strong enough to drag the anchor on a ship, Jesus as our anchor is immovable. He is the Rock we can stand upon and be steadied in life. Our symbol for Him is different, in the cross, but stands for something much more solid and something that can be counted upon.

Reflect on: Your confidence in Jesus as the anchor for your soul.
