A Joyful Heart

22 A joyful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit dries up the bones. (Proverbs 17:22 CSB)

To many joy is an elusive emotion. However, if you ask the same person about laughter they can quickly recount laughter in their lives.

The two are linked but separate. We can laugh in the moment but joy is a more pervasive emotion. It keeps the spirit light and keeps our lives from drying up due to constant feelings of dispair or dryness.

The absence of joy in our lives can truly “dry up the bones” of our lives. Thus, we must strive to move from laughter to joy and keep our hearts light.

The best way to begin this is to just breathe. Nice deep breaths that lighten the whole body. Then simply smile. Breathe – Smile – Laugh….it is a start.
