12 “I, I am he who comforts you;
who are you that you are afraid of man who dies,
of the son of man who is made like grass (Isaiah 51:12 ESV)
We focus so much time and energy on those around us who matter, but are not our ever-present hope in times of need. It isn’t that we should not spend time and energy on others, but we cannot allow them to drive any sort of wedge in between our relationship with the one who comforts us. .
Yes, we need to love on others and see to their needs. But we also must see to our own needs and while it is good to turn to Godly friends in these times, it is better to turn to God. In fact, He should be the first place we turn and seek Him through counsel with our godly friends.
The key element here is that we do not look to man to solve our problems first, but we turn to God.
Reflect on: Where you turn first for comfort.
