¹² For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 ESV)

We need to keep in mind where the real battle is being fought. It may feel like it is an internal one or something very specifically external. However, in reality the real battle is not against flesh and blood, it happens in the heavenly realms.

This can be very difficult for people to grasp. Many do not necessarily buy into the more esoteric “spiritual realm” matters. They deal in the here and now and the physical and do not give much weight to what might be happening in the heavenly realms. But this is a dangerous and shortsighted view of life.

The Bible speaks frequently about angels and demons. It specifically speaks about the rulers and authorities and this present darkness. We do not see or sense these things most of the time. But we may get tiny glimpses from time to time. Regardless, this realm exist beyond our senses and we need heavenly assistance against them.

Reflect on: You views on the heavenly realms. Do you focus fully upon the idea of heaven and discount the possibility of hell? Pray continually for the protection you do need.
