8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. ( 2 Corinthians 6:8 ESV)
Life can be a confusing mess at times. It can seem like everything is coming at us so quickly that the best we can do is to just keep up. In these times we tend to look only inwardly just to keep a grasp upon who we are and what we need to get done each day.
This overwhelming state of life is the enemy and the world working against our divine nature. God does not want us in this state. He wants us living an abundant life so that we have all we need of time, talent and treasure to do His good will, and abound in every good work.
God desires that we have all that we need, but He also desires that we give of all that we have generously. When we horde everything just for ourselves and do not give of our time, talents and treasure to others the world becomes very small. We become very small. God wants us to be big in His eyes, giving freely and generously so that He gives to us freely and generously.
No, we can do nothing of our selves to gain our salvation. But once this free gift is accepted we can give freely of all we have to those in need around us and to the church. In doing so we expand instead of contracting.
