Direct my Steps

23 I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself,
    that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.
24 Correct me, O Lord, but in justice;
    not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing (Jeremiah 10:23-24 ESV)

Our ways are not our own. When we try to walk our own path we can find we are well out of God’s plan, ”the way of man is not in himself.”

Our scripture is trying to tell us that wen we direct our steps we may find ourselves on the justice end of God’s anger. But we can call on God envelope then and ask that He respond not in anger toward us, but with justice. We may ask that he soften the blow so that we are able to adjust without being brought to nothing.

This type of fatherly love is what we can count on with God. He is there to redirect us and help us to find the right path. He does not desire to crush us under the weight He could easily bring.

We simply need to ask that He direct our steps.
