Walls

16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
    your walls are continually before me. (Isaiah 49:16 ESV)

Your walls are continually before God.

That may seem an odd way of saying that God is watching over us. But consider the further implications of the term walls. God is not only watching over us, He is continually looking at the walls that surround us. He is looking at everything in this life that pins us in, that makes us who we are and creates the life we lead. He is looking at every aspect of our lives not just watching over us but to expand our walls into greater and greater boundaries.

He too is working to confine us a bit within the walls He knows will protect us. He is helping us to make good choices so that the walls that surround us also keep us from harm. They are not walls of a prison, but guardrails that our lives so desperately need.

God is making for us walls that contain, walls that protect and walls that will remain strong when the storms of life rail against us.

We should not look at the fact that the walls that are continually before him are anything more than for our benefit. A life without walls is a life of chaos. It is one with no parameters for us to live within, and as fallen humans we need parameters.

Your walls are continually before God.
