24 “No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24 CSB)
Let’s be fair, it is pretty hard to get by in this old world without money. But we need to also realize that getting what we need and desiring more and more are two very different things. This can be said for more than just money as well. Maybe you serve the god of busyness, or some other obsession. There are many things that vie for God’s space and place in your life.
The idea of putting God first and letting everything else come second is an easy theory but can be difficult in practice. It means considering Him in every thought and action, practicing the presence of Christ at all times. More than just knowing that Christ is there, it is about Him in and through everything in our lives.
In and through is how I have come to live my life in Christ. Am I always good at it? No! But keeping my focus on “In and Through” helps me serve only one master. Keeping Christ actively In (involved) everything I endeavor to think or act upon. Through every aspect of life because that is how I get through everything. Only with His grace, mercy and help.
When something is in everything and through everything it is master of everything. And what better to have in that center than Christ!
