8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
and your ways are not my ways.”
This is the Lord’s declaration.
9 “For as heaven is higher than earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9 CSB)
We may like to think that we have a well thought out plan for this life. But there is so much that we cannot see and cannot know.
God has a plan for your life. Yes, it includes salvation and doing the things He has for you to do regarding His Kingdom. But He also has a desire to see His children healthy, happy and successful. The world may seek to break us down, but He will always build us up, even when that means tearing us down first.
The biggest problem is that our thoughts and ways are so far removed from God’s. Our ways have to do with a broken world, often broken lives and a vision seen only through the haze of a given world view. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so are my ways are higher than your ways.” We think and see on a very one dimensional plain obscured by many obstacles. God thinks and sees clearly with no obstructions.
So, does this mean that we should not move forward with what we believe is the best plan? No, but it does mean that we bathe that plan in prayer and request for guidance. We leave ourselves open to changes God put before us. We put a fleece out and see what God does with it. What we find when we are totally open to God’s higher way is that doors are typically either slammed shut or thrown open wide. Even when they are not so obvious, we can listen for His still small voice.
