The Same

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8 CSB)

It is easy to say there is room for mistakes in our family life and in our business life. However, the opposite is more often true. People do not consistently forgive and forget like God does.

You see, the concept of forgive and forget is just that…a nice concept. But our human nature is to store up the mistakes and then use them against one another. The room for mistakes is very small and often predicated upon criteria others have that we may not well realize nor understand.

The problem is that, unlike God, people are not the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. No people change and their attitudes change. Thus, we can go from feeling on firm foundations with someone to sinking quickly in the quicksand of personal emotions. God too has emotions, but luckily love is His primary emotion toward us.

We need to check ourselves in this as well. Our emotions change as quickly as the wind. Many outside factors play into how we feel and this can impact our relations with others. If we do not have a firm foundation in scriptural truth we have no set point and no compass to help us navigate the complicated pathways of human emotion and interaction.

The best part of this is that we do not have to worry about this with God. Because he is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, the set point is always the same. We can go to Him and know there is unconditional love for us. But we should not abuse that love. We need to choose to do right in His eyes, but we can be assured He stays the same.
