Foundations

24 “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25 CSB)

No matter whether you are talking about a house or a life, a solid foundation makes all the difference.

Many people come to faith early in life and then allow its importance to fade in their lives. They live like the world around them, even though they committed to Christ early on. But the foundation has been laid. It may take a serious life event to bring us back, but while we may have left, Christ did not.

How much better the man who gains this early foundation and continues to build. Upon the foundation of Christ salvation, faith has been reinforced with scriptural study, truth and prayer. It has been given a chance to mature. Unlike the one who, in the throws of a life crisis, must strive to grow and mature in a short time. This is a difficult task at best.

Thus, the wise man builds upon this foundation each and every day. Learning more, maturing more and becoming more humble in the process. He knows nothing is owed to him and learns to work like all depends upon him, but prays knowing it all depends upon Christ.
