7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My hope is in you.
8 Save me from all my transgressions;
do not make me the scorn of fools. (Psalm 39:7-8 NIV)
We have all, at some point, felt scorn. It may not have been the outright words spoken to our face, but possibly the subtle undercurrent of gossip or other negativity directed at us.
Maybe it was deserved based upon our actions or maybe it was others just trying to undermine us. Regardless, the feeling it leaves is not pleasant.
However, if our identity is found beyond ourselves, even scornfulness of others cannot touch us. But we need to examine ourselves and make sure that we are not deserving. If we are we need to correct this wrong first.
