23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my concerns.
24 See if there is any offensive[a] way in me;
lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23-24 CSB)
No one likes to be under the microscope. Having any part of our lives closely examined can uncover uncomfortable realities that we may not want to face.
But how many of us truly know ourselves?
Oh, we think we do. We think we have a clear vision of who we are. Then a question is raised and we may find that we are not so clearly what we think. Especially in the eyes of others.
Thus, getting our lives laid bare by a God who is all-seeing, all-knowing can be frightful. But there is both comfort and deliverance in opening ourselves to close inspection by God. Allowing Him to test our hearts and point out that which we are too close to see so that offensive ways can be addressed. But too knowing that no matter the warts God uncovers there is unconditional love there for us.
Once uncovered we can ask the Lord to then assist us in working out our wrinkles so that He leads us in the everlasting way.
