Crouching Lion

If you do what is right, won’t you be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” (Genesis 4:7 CSB)

Have you ever considered sin as crouching at the door, laying in wait for you to pass by?

I had not, but I see that it does very clearly. Sin waits patiently for us like a crouching lion. Waiting to pounce upon us at every opportunity. Elsewhere in scripture our enemy is said to be like a roaring lion come to devour us.

Both analogies are apt. In one he lays in wait for us, but make no mistake he also roams about roaring his anger at us and God, seeking every opportunity to lay waste to either.

We are in a daily battle against the enemy, and often the enemy within ourselves. Too often the true enemy has to do little to draw us away as we do that ourselves.

Thus, we must be watchful each moment of every day to keep ourselves aware of the crouching lion waiting for us. Not giving opportunity for him to lay waste to our lives.
